We represent clients in the Wayne and Washtenaw County areas, and statewide. Call our experienced attorneys at (734) 677-2020 to discuss the merits of your possible claim.

Dog Bite Law in Michigan

In Michigan, the dog’s owner is strictly liable for any injury or damage, on public or private property. If the attack occurred on the owner’s property, he or she is still accountable if the victim had a legal reason to be there (e.g., an invited guest, mail carrier, or delivery person). The only exception is a dog that was intentionally provoked by the victim.

Compensation for Dog Bites and Attacks

Don Ferris and Heidi Salter-Ferris have secured damages in numerous dog bite liability claims. Typically damages are paid via the homeowner’s insurance policy, but we are not afraid to take a case to trial if the insurance company won’t pay.

We can help victims recover damages for:

  • Emergency room treatment of wounds
  • Scarring, disfigurement, and/or reconstructive surgery
  • Nerve damage / loss of function
  • Severe infection
  • Emotional trauma
  • Injuries incurred escaping from an attacking animal

Children are often at risk, because they are more likely to approach dogs and more likely to incur serious facial injury.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of a dog bite, please contact us today. We offer a free consultation and you pay no attorneys’ fees unless we recover damages.
